The charter is the governing document for the City of Pontiac. It is our city’s constitution. In August 2021, Pontiac voters approved a proposal to establish a charter commission to revise the city charter that was created in 1982. In May 2022, Pontiac voters elected nine residents to serve as Charter Commissioners. State law allows the Charter Revision Commission up to three years to revise the Charter. The Charter Commission will have to complete its revision no later than August 2024 since voters approved the establishment of a charter commission in August 2021.
