Biography: Councilman Michael McGuinness is a longtime Pontiac resident, who attended Oakland University and received a Bachelors of Political Science at Oakland University Leadership Institute. Michael was also Student Body Vice President (2004-2005) and then served as President at Oakland University (2005-2006). He also attended AmeriCorps National Service from (2002-2004). President McGuinness’s professional career includes serving as Executive Director of the Oakland County Historical Society. He is currently Executive Director of Berkley Downtown Development Authority. His passion for helping the community led him to his role as Outreach Coordinator for Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence (2017-2019). At Towne Mortgage Company he was Marketing Team Lead (2013-2015), conducted Appraisals and served as 203K Coordinator. McGuinness was Assistant to the President at Towne Mortgage company (2011-2013) and in 2006-2010 served on the Legislative Staff team for the Michigan House of Representatives. Pres. McGuinness is affiliated with the Pontiac Board of Education Trustees (2017-2019); Accent Pontiac Board of Directors (2017-2021); Chair of the Pontiac Arts (2015- 2019); and was Pontiac Charter Revision Commissioner (2013-2015). He is currently an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church of Pontiac. Councilperson McGuinness was elected to represent City Council District Seven in November 2021 to a four-year term expiring on January 1, 2025.
